Aurora 3D Animation Maker for Windows allows even novice users to create smooth, professional quality animations quickly and easily. The free 10-day trial version includes access to all features, as well as the extensive image, style, text and template galleries. Unlike many such trial versions that produce watermarked output or block the final export, this program allows full functionality.

The user interface is intuitive and should look familiar to anyone who has used mainstream graphics programs. The main interface provides ready access to all of the necessary toolbars, submenus and feature buttons in a straightforward and uncluttered layout. The buttons have been placed exactly where the user will think they should be.

For the novice user, the vast array of options may appear intimidating at first. However, the program includes many animation templates to get the project started quickly. Relatively advanced features such as 3D rendering and motion effects can be included right from the first use without a steep learning curve. The illustrated User Guide is very simple and direct, guiding first time users smoothly through a number of seemingly complex options and features without overwhelming or confusing the novice. The many templates, images and styles available in the program library stimulate the novice's creativity while familiarizing them with the many features and possibilities in the animation world. It is, however, worth noting that the templates themselves were not easily customizable. It seems that the colors and shapes in the templates must stay intact, which is an unusual limitation. Exporting the finished animation into a variety of file types was also simple and user-friendly. Taking full advantage of all the many available options will require practice and some study to become familiar with 3D effects. As a novice animator, the overall user experience was still quite satisfying without being overwhelming or discouraging. The project that was created in the course of this review was a first-time animation that will be used professionally as the introduction to an online streaming video broadcast.

For the advanced user, the templates, background images and text styles may seem somewhat dated. Some of the 3D text and animation styles were reminiscent of the old Windows 3D text screen saver, where a custom message flew awkwardly around the screen in squared off, blockish lettering. The program offers far more options than just those represented by the available templates and sample styles. The wide range of functionality and robust import feature mean that advanced users and professional designers are limited only by their imaginations. Designers who are already working with vector graphic images may import them to produce spectacular animations of their existing logos. The quick, efficient production process and ability to see changes in real time are very impressive on a professional level.

Overall, Aurora 3D Animation Maker is well worth consideration for both novice and professional animators looking to add effects to a presentation, video or website.
